By Matt Ryan

Fujifilm is known for their creatively designed handheld cameras, and their newest model - the FinePix z20fd - definitely fits the bill. This compact camera fits comfortably, in the palm of your hand, and provides all of the necessary functionality you will need in a camera.

The FinePix z20fd is a pocket sized camera with measurements of only 3.6 x 2.2 x 0.8 inches. Additionally, it only weighs 4.4 ounces. The combination of size and weight make this camera compact enough that just about anyone can comfortably operate it with the use of one hand. For those of you who like a little spice, you can choose from a red, green, pink, blue, or even black exterior.

This is a 10-megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom. With just these features, and no added bonuses, you can produce images with 3,648 x 2,736 pixels, which is great for any picture frame - digital or printed. There is an additional 5.6x digital zoom; however, these zooms are known to cause distortion in photos.

Automatic exposure control is one of many features on the FinePix z20fd. This feature allows consumers to snap pictures with little to no modifications to other settings. Many additional features on this model, which make it even more appealing to the average consumer.

Other features include preset shooting modes, face detection with or without red eye removal, photo stabilization, IrSimple, blog mode, white balance, ISO settings, and even color modes. Features that can easily be adjusted manually would be the ISO settings, color modes, and white balance adjustments. Again, this really should not be necessary with the automatic exposure control.

As for the preset shooting modes, there are numerous different options. These modes make your life easier as you do not have to figure out what settings to adjust for different scenarios that you are shooting. Some of these modes are beach, snow, sunset, and even night. (There are 14 preset shooting modes.)

As for blog mode, this functionality allows you to share photos with your friends and loved ones. Simply go into the IrSimple menu, downsize your photos (optimized for blog posting), and send your pictures on their way. The images are saved, after being downsized, as a different file name. This is to ensure that you do not lose your original photo.

All menus, on the FinePix x20fd, are accessible via the LCD screen or the navigational buttons on the backside of the camera. The display is a 2.5-inch LCD that allows you clearly see your images, along with navigate through different menu options. To the right of the display are two 4-way navigational menu options. These are for easy access to simple actions like flash.

The FinePix z20fd has internal storage of up to 45MB. While this stores a decent amount of photos, the purchase of an additional memory card might be necessary. This model supports xD-Picture, SD, and SDHC expansion memory cards.

For only $200, you can make a child, yourself, or a friend happy with a new, elegantly designed, FinePix z20fd. This is the perfect camera for those who like to take pictures wherever they go. It is user-friendly enough that even the most inexperienced user can easily capture memories.
